Meet George Stavros

Anyone fortunate enough to have known George would tell you he was one of the most selfless people on the planet. Never got the chance to meet him? This story reflects exactly the kind of guy he was. 

Although George—a career restaurateur who consistently embodied the spirit of giving—knew he was facing potentially serious health issues, he kept this information to himself: not wanting to burden his family. You see, George’s son Bill was planning to marry a woman he absolutely adored, Neha, in April 2013, and he didn’t want his poor health to alter their wedding plans. 

George sacrificed every ounce of the fighting energy he had left to make the journey to their destination wedding in Anguilla. Unfortunately, he passed away of congestive heart failure just a few hours (yes, hours) before their scheduled wedding ceremony. 

That sums up George: a person who always made sacrifices for the wellbeing of others. Though he is of course deeply missed, we are forever grateful for the wonderful example he set.  

The Stavros family launched this 501(c)(3) organization in 2015 to honor George’s generous legacy. Today, he is in our hearts and minds as we continue the work he started and make days a little brighter for those less fortunate.
